Every year over 300 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Wales, with two thirds of women diagnosed at a late stage. Yet this disease continues to be overlooked. Our new agenda, Three Targets to Transform the Future of Ovarian Cancer in Wales outlines the ways we can transform the future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer and how we can work together to achieve this.
1. A government funded awareness campaign, so everyone knows the symptoms
2. A shorter diagnostic pathway for ovarian cancer, with support and training for GPs.
3. A new long-term cancer strategy to drive improvements in cancer outcomes, improve access to treatment and clinical trials.

- How you can support our work in Wales
- Current campaign
We've invited all Members of the Senedd to attend an informal reception in September 2026, where we'll highlight the need for the changes outlined in the Three Targets. This will also be an opportunity for the MSs to speak face-to-face with women with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
Please help us boost turn-out at this vital event by urging the MSs representing you to attend. It only takes a couple of minutes to do so, using our simple e-action.
Two tips to make your action even more effective when using our email template
- Please consider adding a sentence or two (ideally at the top of the email) explaining why ovarian cancer matters to you. We know that this can be very effective in making elected representatives take notice of, and act on, emails of this type.
- Don’t be shy about your support for action on ovarian cancer! The e-action is set up so that, with a simple click, you can easily invite your family and friends to take the action too. Please take advantage of this to help us spread the word.
Please note, owing to the nature of the drop-in event, we are not able to issue a general invite to Target Ovarian Cancer supporters in Wales to attend on this occasion.
- Help shape government's 10 year Cancer Strategy for Wales
In July 2026, the new Welsh government announced that they will be developing a 10-year National Cancer Strategy for Wales. This will be the first Welsh government cancer strategy since 2006.
We've long been calling for a dedicated cancer strategy to drive improvements in ovarian cancer outcomes across Wales, and so we warmly welcome this important commitment.The government is running a consultation on the strategy. As a charity, we will – of course - be submitting evidence to this. However, they are also inviting people with lived experience of cancer to contribute to the development of the strategy.
We strongly encourage you to share your experience and insights of ovarian cancer as part of this consultation. You can do so here.
This is an unrivalled opportunity to help shape the future of cancer care in Wales for years to come. In August 2026 we launch a new poster campaign, featuring Linda from Penarth, to raise awareness of symptoms. Posters are available in Welsh and English.
Please print out and display these posters wherever you have permission to do so – in your workplace, shop, community centre or place of worship, for example. They can also be shared digitally – on social media for example, or even in the waiting room of your GP surgery.

- Unheard Inquiry
Wales has some of the worst survival rates for ovarian cancer in Europe. Over 300 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in Wales, and more women die as a result of ovarian cancer in the UK than all other gynaecological cancers combined.
That’s why on behalf of all women affected by ovarian cancer; we gave evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee as they undertook an inquiry into gynaecological cancers. We urged them to focus on addressing the barriers to improving early diagnosis by increasing symptoms awareness, improving GP knowledge, and addressing variation in access to treatment. The Committee published their landmark report in December 2023.
We were pleased to see a number of our recommendations taken forward, including the need for cervical screening to be updated and better support for GPs to diagnose gynaecological cancers. However, following the publication there was slow progress on implementing the recommendations. Alongside other organisations we provided further evidence in October 2025 highlighting the urgency for the Welsh Government to take action on gynaecological cancers.
In early 2026, the Committee published their follow-up report - incorporating many of the points made by us.

Target Ovarian Cancer engages in formal and informal consultations on all aspects of ovarian cancer policy in Wales, to ensure that the voices of people with lived experience of the disease are fully taken into account.
