Are you passionate about supporting others affected by ovarian cancer? Would you like to help spread the word about our online community? How about a volunteer role that you can do from home, in your own time? If yes, join our friendly team as a Digital Champion!
About the role
We are looking for volunteers to support us with moderating and growing our online community Facebook groups, the Ovarian Cancer Community and In Touch.
As a Digital Champion you’ll join our friendly volunteer moderator team, helping to support members of our online community, keep the groups safe and spread the word to reach new members. This includes:
- Reviewing membership requests and pending posts
- Keeping members engaged, welcoming new members, signposting to our Health Information and support resources, and creating discussion posts
- Supporting Target Ovarian Cancer with growing the online community and suggesting ways to reach more people affected by ovarian cancer
- Helping to keep the community safe by removing content that goes against group rules and escalating any concerns to Target Ovarian Cancer’s senior leadership team
This is a rewarding role where you can develop new skills in moderating online groups and engagement and choose which activities you’d like to get involved in.
Our existing volunteers have helped with sharing posts on social media, featuring in videos and signposting members to useful resources, but we’d love to hear your ideas.
As a member of our moderator team, you’ll have support from other volunteers with lived experience of ovarian cancer, along with Target Ovarian Cancer staff, so there are always people on hand to support you and share advice, if you need it.
As a member and moderator, I’ve seen how welcoming and supportive the community is. It’s a great environment to ask questions, offer advice, or just have meaningful conversations where everyone’s voice is heard.
Your wellbeing is important to us, so to support you in your role we offer:
- Flexibility - this role can be done completely remotely you'll have the choice between morning, afternoon and evening sessions, based on what works for you.
- Training and resources to help you feel confident in your role.
- Guidance and on-going support from Target Ovarian Cancer to build your confidence in making moderation decisions, and access to our Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 confidential support.
- A private moderator group and team meetings giving you plenty of opportunities to connect with other volunteers, share insight and access peer support
Our online community is accessible any day, any time, so we’re particularly interested in having support with moderating the groups out of normal office hours, such as evenings and weekends, but we appreciate any time you can offer. Interested in finding out more? Read our frequently asked questions below or get in touch via email to arrange an informal chat. If you'd like to apply, just complete the expression of interest form at the end of this page.
